W.J.L. Harvey Park North - Fitness Trail Project

The Silverwood Heights Community Association (SHCA) is excited to unveil plans for a Fitness Trail in our community!  The trail is accessible by anybody and this equipment will be free for anyone to use, creating a cost and barrier-free option for all people to get active and enjoy what Silverwood Heights has to offer.

Features of the Concept Design

This Trail will allow community residents and park users to heighten their exercise experience while rolling, walking or running the trail in our neighbourhood.  Two pods containing stationary fitness equipment for use by both youth and adults, will be installed at two different locations along the trail, which passes through W.J.L. Harvey Park North in Saskatoon.  A few examples of the types of equipment that will be installed include push-up station(s), a balance board, chin-up station(s), and plyometric boxes.  The pods will be installed along a section of the trail which falls between the two sets of elementary schools within the area, additionally allowing access to this fitness equipment for Physical Education classes.  The objective of this project is to provide a fitness solution that is accessible to everyone!

Fundraising Goal

The total cost of this equipment is expected to be $71,000.  To date, the Community Association has a total of $60,000 for this project; however, as we are a volunteer run, non-profit organization, we are seeking additional grants, donations and sponsorship(s).  Our outstanding volunteers will be assisting with the site preparation prior to equipment install.  To follow the progress on our fundraising goals, please visit:

We are currently seeking sponsorship as outlined below.  A permanent plaque will be placed along the trail upon completion acknowledging all sponsors who donate $1,500 or more, and “Heavy Lifter” and corporate sponsors will have the option of including their company logo on the plaque as well. All sponsors for this project will be acknowledged on our website, social media and through a media release at project launch.

  • Heavy Lifter $5,000 +

  • Core Builder $3,000 +

  • Path Leader $1,500 +

  • Trail Runner $500 +

  • Friends of Fitness $20 - $100 +

An opportunity to volunteer

The playground will be assembled by volunteers in the spring/summer 2016, under the direction of the playground equipment supplier. There is a need for all levels of skill – unwrapping the equipment, carrying the equipment parts, bolting the equipment together,  coordinating meals and snacks for the volunteers, site clean-up. If you are willing to help (subject to the date being confirmed), please send an email to Michele Cozart, programming@silverwoodcommunity.org
