Lawson Recycling Depot

Relocation to Primrose Drive

The Lawson Heights Recycling Depot will be moving to a new permanent location on Primrose Drive in early November. The new location, on the south side of Primrose Drive west of the Lawson Heights Civic Centre, is needed as the current location in the parking lot at the Mall at Lawson Heights is no longer available. The new site will offer residents the opportunity to recycle tin cans, milk and beverage containers, newspapers, and cardboard.
The new location has a number of improvements incorporated in its design to help depot users as well as local residents. These include:
• additional recycling bins
• on-site security cameras (directed within the depot only)
• dark sky friendly lighting
• landscape fencing on three sides of the site
• one-way traffic with right-turns only into and out of the depot to minimize traffic disruption
• landscaping and planting designed to screen and beautify the location is planned for spring 2009. Not only does the new location ensure a permanent, long-term location for a north-end recycling depot, it makes use of a partially-developed section of City-owned property that had been used for a bus access turn and depot many years ago. The current depot at the east end of the Mall at Lawson Heights parking lot will be decommissioned at the same time the new depot opens. For more information, contact: Ken Johnson 975-2695

Community Association Programs

Silverwood Community Program Info Sept 2008

WInter Programming '09 info

The SHCA Silverwood Heights Community Association serves the needs of this young community north of Lenore Drive. The Association organizes a variety of recreational, social, and educational programs for adults, children/youth, and preschoolers. Most programs operate out of Brownell, Silverwood Heights, Sister O'Brien, and St. Angela Schools. It is also responsible for looking after area rinks and playgrounds, and is active in helping fund park development. Volunteers are the heart of the Association, their efforts make the programs and activities possible.

Your Community Association offers these programs for people of all ages during the fall and winter months. From organized sports to Outdoor rinks, Smart Start adult beginner fitness classes, drop-in sports, arts and crafts - there's something for everyone.

THE SASKATCHEWAN
ENVIRONMENTAL SOCETY

The Saskatchewan Environmental Society would like to extend a big thank you to all of the Silverwood Height residents who participated in our Pesticide Reduction Survey back in 2006. The results showed that many of you support reducing or eliminating pesticides in your lawn and garden. As a result, many Silverwood residents are Pesticide-Free! As the summer fast approaches we just want to remind you that SES is always available to help with regards to controlling your lawn and garden pests in a more environmentally friendly way. We have eco-advisors ready to come to your yard and diagnose the problem and help determine pesticide-free solutions. Just contact our office at 665-1915 to book a free eco-advisor consultation, or check out our website for lots of good information on how to be pesticide-free, www.environmentalsociety.ca
