Outdoor Rinks

Silverwood Heights three outdoor rinks are flooded and ready to go. These rinks are FREE to use, community-owned and are maintained by volunteers in the area.

The rinks locations are as follows:
St. Angela School, 302 Russell Road
Sister O'Brien School, 451 Silverwood Road
Silverwood Heights School, 403 Silverwood Road

Interested in volunteering? We could use help with flooding and snow removal throughout the winter. It’s a great way to get out for some exercise and to help provide an important place to play. For more information on volunteering, contact Ron by emailing rink@silverwoodcommunity.org, or by phone at 306-270-3762 (cell) or 306-382-0132 (home).

If you are going to use a rink, please consider bringing a scraper/shovel to help clear snow. If there is more than a centimetre of snow, please do not walk on it as it packs it and makes it harder to clear. Also, if it is freshly flooded, please let it freeze overnight before using.

Do not visit the outdoor rinks if you are feeling ill.

Have a great winter and enjoy our three community rinks!

Cross Country Ski Trail

The SHCA has arranged for the grooming of a cross country ski trail around the perimeter of WJL Harvey Park (north of Meilicke Road). The trail is approximately 1.5 km long and is FREE to use. Bring your own equipment.

The SHCA will arrange for the grooming as needed, but you can help ensure a great experience for everyone by keeping the following tips top of mind when using the trail:

- Practise environmental ethics (pack it in – pack it out).
- Step off the trail during stops to allow other skiers to pass. For the same reason, get up and off the trail quickly after falling down.
- Yield to faster skiers, or call “track” if you see someone in your way.
- Give the right of way to descending skiers on hills, if any.
- Ski on the right where there are double tracks.
- Ski in a counterclockwise direction on the trail.
- Keep pets away from groomed trails.
- Groomed trails are for skiers only. Please do not walk on the trail.
- Sunflower seeds, spitting and chewing tobacco are not permitted on the trail.
- Please do not not use the ski trail if you are sick.

If you have questions or suggestions regarding ski trails in our community please email Keri at programming@silverwoodcommunity.org.
