The Silverwood Heights Community Association AGM will be taking place October 3, 2017 in the  Silverwood Heights School Library at 7:00 pm.

All residents of Silverwood are invited to join the discussions an see what the SHCA is all about! We also have a number of positions available on the Board, including Vice-President, Member at Large and an few others. A full list of available positions will be available at that AGM. 

The reviewed financial statement will be presented for this meeting, after which it will be available for any member in good standing to view upon contacting a member of the executive.

We hope to see some new faces around the table!!

A repair session is planned for the rink by St. Angela School on Saturday October 29th starting at 1:00 pm. 

Materials will be supplied, just bring a cordless drill. 

We have over 50 boards to replace, so any help would be appreciated.

The SHCA will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, October 4th at 7:00 pm in the Silverwood Heights School library.  We are looking for new members to rejuvenate our wonderful team of volunteers.  We meet once a month (September through June) on the first Tuesday of each month for approximately 1.5 hours.  Time commitment varies amongst the available positions and we are happy to have you share a position if that makes the time commitment more manageable – not to mention more fun!  Training is available – so don’t worry about jumping in with no assistance.

We’re a fun group that loves to bring new ideas and excitement to the Silverwood area.  Help us continue to make Silverwood the Place to Be! Please consider joining our group in any of the following capacities (more detailed job descriptions available upon request): 

 

Grants and Fundraising Coordinator – Exactly as it sounds – help us out by completing the grant forms required by the city to assist our association financially.  Arrange fundraising events when the association requires them.


Volunteer and Public Relations Coordinator – Get to know our area residents by reaching out to the community and helping to co-ordinate volunteers where required by the association.

 

Newsletter and Graphics Co-ordinator -  Promote the Association by preparing and arranging for distribution of the Association’s newsletter (1 printed and 2 electronic) and make provision for the maintaining of the website with regard to content and timely updates. Website and newsletter duties will most likely need the help of assistant volunteers. Skills Preferred: Word Processing, fluent computer skills desirable, organization, written communication proficiency, artistic abilities, eye for detail

Special Events Coordinator -  Oversee the planning and organization of special events (Family Day in the Park, Community BBQ and other events) organized by the Association.  Prepare social event budgets for approval and final reports after community events. Skills Preferred:      Planning/Organization, Marketing (ticket sales), Creativity, Budgeting, Public Relations, Diplomacy, Written Communication Skills, Independence, Fiscal Responsibility

 

School Representative(s) – Ecole Sr. O’Brien - Act as a liaison between the Association and a specific school.   Assist Executive and committees where required, Assist in organizing special events.  Present timely report on activities and needs identified during Parent Council/school meetings.

 

Rink Coordinator - Organize and coordinate rinks maintenance and operation. Currently Silverwood School lighting is in need of fixing and Sister OBrien rink requires painting.  Rink caretakers are all returning and they are responsible for maintenance on the rinks. With assistance from the Treasurer and President as required, and from the Area Recreation Consultant, apply for all grants pertaining to the rinks.  Coordinate the annual maintenance of the rinks (repairs, painting, and ground leveling etc.) and organize work parties to facilitate these repairs.  Act as liaison with the school principals and the rink managers.  Prepare and submit annual budget to the Finance Committee.  Purchase equipment as approved in the budget.  Prepare written year-end report for presentation to the Executive.

Ensure that an ex gratia payment is made to Rink volunteers. 

Skills Preferred:           Organization, Diplomacy, Commitment, Fiscal responsibility, Diplomacy in working with caretakers

 

Civics and Safety Coordinator - Act as a liaison between the Association, city, and surrounding businesses.  Also, coordinates the association’s efforts in matters pertaining to neighbourhood traffic patterns, zoning, property assessment and parks and recreation.

Responsibilities: Assist Executive and committees where required.  Assist in providing timely safety information issues facing our community.  Organize security initiatives including facilitation of a volunteer-based park patrolCoordinates input from residents on issues that require public opinion and awareness.

Represents the Association when meeting with the Saskatoon Police Service about the Community Watch Program. Is responsible for representing the community association on matters of civic concern

Skills Preferred:           Flexibility, Commitment, Diversity

 

Member-at-Large - Fill any vacant positions in executive as appointed by president and assist other Association members wherever necessary.  Assist Executive and committees where and when required.

Assist in organizing special events.  Special project participation.

Join Jessica on any or all of the remaining scheduled evenings to learn how to cook authentic Italian dishes.  Join 3 or more classes and get a $5 discount per class!

All classes are $30 each and are offered from 6-9 pm Friday evenings (see specific dates below) at the Marion Graham Home Ec Lab.  

Jessica Cervi has recently moved to Saskatoon and is originally from Italy.  She's sharing her love of Italian cooking learned from her mother and grandmother.  We've had fantastic reviews of the Italian cooking classes already held - you don't want to miss out on this great class offering!

Registration is now available for select fall classes.  We have 12 drop in options available for you to choose from Monday through Saturday (no Wednesday drop in classes).  Please check the schedule for available options (link schedule here).  Please note that drop ins will only be allowed in classes with the drop in option advertised.
